SAFER SPACES POLICY

Camp Rover Events is committed to providing a safer experience for everyone. We envision our conference and any other events as being an open and supportive space for creatives.

We want people of all gender identities, abilities, ages, sexualities and cultures to feel welcome to participate in our events. To this end, harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated in any form.

The following behaviour from Attendees, Speakers, Presenters, Panlists, Vendors, Makers or any other guests are not welcome at Camp Rover:

  • Racism

  • Transphobia

  • Homophobia

  • Whorephobia

  • Misogyny in all of its forms

  • Fat-phobia

  • Ableism

  • Ageism

What We Expect From Participants

Participants include Attendees, Speakers, Presenters, Panlists, Vendors, Makers and any other guest of visit at one of our events.

Camp Rover Events places a strong emphasis on integrity among all participants. Our goal is to establish a space that is enjoyable, respectful, and secure. We extend an invitation for you to join us; to help cultivate an environment where creativity and collaboration can thrive. We aim to foster a space that embraces diverse perspectives and promotes learning and innovation. In this space, we promote respectful interactions and treat fellow participants with courtesy. We prioritize being supportive, inclusive, patient, and encouraging in all our interactions.

The following are standards we hold ourselves to and ask that all Participants do the same:

  • Respect others’ physical and emotional boundaries.

  • Respect others’ identities and backgrounds, including pronouns and names.

  • Do not assume or make judgments on anyone’s gender identity, sexual preference, survivor status, health status, economic status, religion, background, beliefs, opinions, etc.

  • Be aware that your actions and words may have unintended effects on other people and that their feelings are valid, regardless of your intentions.

  • Assume positive intent. If someone does or says something that crosses a boundary, gently let them know, but do not assume they intended harm.

  • Remember, we are all learning.

  • Take care of your own safety. If you need to step out, feel free to do so. If you feel unsafe, let one of the Camp Rover Team know.

  • If you witness any abusive or inappropriate behaviour, let Camp Rover Team know.

Accessibility & Washrooms on-site

Due to the nature of Camp Rover Events (conferences, workshops, outings, etc) we can not guarantee the same accessibility at each location.

Our aim when picking each event location is that it is barrier free. You will see more on each event’s accessibility per event (See the event’s page or ticket info for more)

Camp Rover Conference - Feb 2024

Washrooms

There are gendered public restrooms with signage on the main floor of the building (to the right when you walk in) and downstairs (accessible via stairs or lift).

Accessibility

The conference will take place all on one floor. To enter the building there is a ramp to the side of the stairs. Once you are inside the building the hall is directly behind the museum ticket station.

Low Sensory Lounges

We will have quiet lounges during our flagship conference that will have lower lighting, access to ear plugs, water, snacks, fidget toys, and a soft place to sit (couches, armchairs, or the soft rugged floor).

You are welcome to come and go as much as you need. We ask that you respect the quieter space we are providing. Additionally, there will be volunteers stationed to check in and maintain the space and its boundaries.
